MOPANI – The police in Mopani have opened two inquest dockets, following the deaths of two people who died in separate incidents of alleged suicide over the past weekend.
The first incident took place at the Giyani Township on Monday afternoon at about 12:00.
According to the spokesperson of the police in the area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, the body of Ms Cynthia Basani Hlungwane (25) was found hanging from a rope from the rafters of her house. Upon investigation the police discovered that the deceased had had a blazing argument with her boyfriend shortly before the incident.
In a separate incident the police are investigating a case where an 86-year-old pensioner, Mrs Tsatsawani Mashimbyi, has allegedly committed suicide. According to the police statement, Mashimbyi's body was found hanging in her house on Sunday night at about 20:30.
Investigations are still going on about the circumstances that might have led to the deceased's decisions to commit suicide. Post mortems are still to be conducted in respect of the two inquests. In the statement which was issued by the police early this week, they appealed to people to learn to share their problems with others, saying that incidents of a similar nature are being reported every week.
