GIYANI – Twenty-six drivers from the Mopani District took part in the 2003 Driver of the Year Competition (DOTY), that was held at the Giyani parking area on Saturday.
The winner in the articulated truck category was Mr D Sambo. Mr CI Baloyi was the runner-up while the third place went to Mr NE Mahashe. They are all employees of Great North Transport.
Another employee of Great North Transport Company, Mr LM Lekwadi, was the winner in the bus category. He was followed by Mr ME Ngoetsana, who works for Kopano Transport Services Company. Mr PV Raholang from Great North Transport Company obtained the third position.
Mr KA Selaelo from the Department of Health and Welfare was the winner in the rigid truck category. Mr TH Mahange, who works in the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, finished in second place. The third position went to Mr TG Mabunda.
Mr Mabunda works for Great North Transport Company. The winner and the runner-up in each category were given trophies. The winner in the bus category, Mr LM Lekwadi, was the overall winner. He was given an additional trophy for his achievement.
The winners and the second-placed drivers in each category will compete in the provincial competition that will be held in Polokwane on the 8th of next month. According to the organisers, a similar competition will be held in Vhembe District next Saturday, July 17, while the Sekhukhune District will stage their own competition on Saturday, July 25.
