HLANGANANI – Several criminal cases were finalized in the Hlanganani magistrate court last week.
A resident of Majosi Village, Best Baloyi (18), was sentenced to six months imprisonment, for resisting arrest. The incident took place at Majosi Village in the Hlanganani area on Monday April 1, at about 14:30. The court heard that the accused was harassing and threatening people with death at a local supermarket on the day of the incident.
The police received the information through their informers and proceeded to the scene. At that stage the accused had already vanished from the scene. The police traced him and found him in the surrounding bushes.
He resisted arrest and started to through stones in the direction of the police. They later arrested him, but he assaulted a number of them with fists, while under arrest. He was not given the option to pay a fine.
In anther case that was finalised in the same court last Thursday, Amos Maluleke (26) of Rotterdam Village was sentenced to three months in jail for assaulting a 19-year-old girl. The incident took place at Rotterdam Village on the 6th of this month at about 13:00.
The court heard that the accused met the victim in the street. The accused questioned the complainant about her reasons for not greeting him. The girl argued that it was not her responsibility alone to greet, saying the accused was also guilty of not greeting her.
A chilling argument ensued between the two. During the argument the accused lost his temper and assaulted the complainant with an open hand. The matter was reported to the police and the accused was arrested later that afternoon.
Although he was given the option of paying a R1 000 fine, he was still in custody at the time of going to the press.
