MAKHADO – The Vhembe SAPS women won several trophies in different sporting codes during the provincial women-in-sport contest, held at the Makhado rugby stadium last week Tuesday.
The Vhembe team ended up as overall winner of event. In the soccer, Vhembe became the champion, the second position went to Waterberg and Capricorn collected third prize. In the tug-of-war, Vhembe, Waterberg and Capricorn took the three first positions. Vhembe also won the Netball.
The Provincial Deputy Commissioner, Celiwe Binta, said that police are most often the victims of stress because of the nature of their job. Police work longer hours without resting and they must balance their family lives and work. Binta said participants must learn to assess their stress levels and how to manage them.
The Social Investment Manager of Tshikondeni Mine, Mr Richard Kone, stated that his company is committed that every member of its staff be engaged in sports, saying that sport is playing an important part in the upliftment of the community. Kone said his company sponsored the event by more than R15 000.
"If ever there was a need for sportspeople to stand up and applaud companies that devoted much of their profit to the underprivileged, that time has arisen," said the SAPS provincial sport officer, Calvin Sikhau
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
