THOHOYANDOU – The club that has been known as Highlandspark Silver Stars or Tycoon Silver over the past years will be known as Dangerous Stars Football Club from now on.
This follows the decision by one of the directors of the team, Mr Joseph "Tycoon" Mapfulagasha, to sell his 50% shares to an Mpumalanga based businessman, Mr Robert Gumede. The decision implies that the club has moved to Mpumalanga Province. Mr Gumede will partner another prominent businessman, Mr Larry Brookstone.
During an interview with Mirror early this week Mapfulagasha cited business reasons as the contributing factors that led to his decision to sell his shares. He appealed to people not to panic, saying he was in the process of buying another First Division franchise. He also apologized to the club's supporters for leaving them in the cold. Most of the people who were randomly interviewed by Mirror expressed their disappointment, saying Mapfulagasha had betrayed them.
The president of the Northern Province East Region of SAFA, Mr Kirsten Nematandani, revealed that his association had played a major role in bringing the club to where it is today, and that it would be wise of Mr Mapfulagasha to share his idea of selling the club with them before taking any action. "I am not saying we would have stopped him from pursuing his idea, but we could have assisted him in some ways if he had some problems in maintaining the club," he said.
He indicated that he was going to sit down with Mapfulagasha and expressed his shock and disappointment to him.
The managing director of Black Leopards Football Club, Mr David Thidiela, said that he although he is equally embarrassed by the move, he will not comment further since Mapfulagasha has already apologised to the community for letting them down.
Mr Thidiela's counterpart in Dynamos Football Club, Mr Pat Malabela, stated that he partly supports Mapfulagasha's move, saying experience has taught him that it is difficult to run a semi-professional or professional team without a sponsor.
Mr Rudzani Mulaudzi, a well-known soccer referee stated that although Mapfulagasha has indicated that his decision was influenced by business reasons, the fact that he betrayed the community still stands. Other people stated in clear terms that they will never support him if he succeeds in his endeavor to purchase another first division franchise.
