MOPANI – The police in Mopani have arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him with attempted murder. This follows an incident that took place at the Mabalani village last Thursday night at about 23:00.
According to the police spokesperson in the area, Insp Hasani Mabaso, Mr Reckson Mashali (50) was fast asleep in his house when the incident took place. The sound of a gunshot and the screaming of his children awakened him. He quickly got up and went to the children's room. The children showed him a broken window that had been shot at. Mashali, together with the children, went out of the house searching for the gunman.
They found a man hiding under a tree next to the main gate. Realising that there were people coming in his direction, the man cocked the firearm and started shooting in their direction. The people then ran back to the house, screaming for assistance.
The matter was reported to the police the following morning. Upon investigation the police arrested a 26-year-old man who resides at Mabalani village, during the weekend. The firearm that was allegedly used during the incident was seized during his arrest and he was still to appear in court at the time of going to press.
