MOPANI – The police in Mopani have arrested a 41-year-old man, following an incident that took place at the Matikoshikaya village in the Lukelani area last Saturday night at about 19:30.
According to the spokesperson of the police in the area, Insp Hasani Mabaso, the complainant was walking in the street when the incident took place. She was on her way home. Along the way she met the suspect who was going in the opposite direction. According to the police statement the suspect grabbed the victim by the hand and threatened to chop her neck off if she made any noise.
The suspect then ordered the victim to go with him to his home, which was a distance away. That is where he raped her at knifepoint. According to the statement the suspect put a piece of cloth into the complainant's mouth while he was busy raping her so that she could not scream.
She was released about three hours later. The matter was reported to the police the following day and the suspect was arrested later that morning. He was still to appear in court at the time of going to press. The victim is a 15-year-old girl. In the other incident the police in Lulekani were still searching for a man who had raped a 60-year-old pensioner at knifepoint on Sunday at about 11:00. The complainant was on her way to her Hamilani vegetable garden when the incident occurred.
When she arrived at the garden gate, she was confronted by an unknown man who threatened her with a panga if she did not adhere to his instructions. The man the raped her repeatedly and later ran away in the direction of the nearby Bellfarm. He was still at large at the time of going to press. The police have appealed to anyone who has information regarding the case to phone them at Tel 015 783 0175.
