MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – Fritz-Jan van der Westhuizen, a Grade 12-learner from Louis Trichardt High School, did his school proud when he was nominated as top accounting learner in the province by the Limpopo Province's regional association of the CFA (Commercial and Financial Accountants of Southern Africa).
Fritz-Jan obtained this distinction after finishing first in the annual provincial CFA Accountancy Olympiad. As prize he will receive a Mecer Computer, which was sponsored by Game in Polokwane. He was one of three learners from Louis Trichardt High School to compete in the Olympiad. His fellow schoolmates were Luhann Holtzhausen and Manjula Asokan. Louis Trichardt High School also received the floating trophy for the highest average in the Olympiad. The trophy is sponsored by Quantum Personnel Services.
The Accountancy Olympiad is organised to create an awareness of the CFA and an interest in the accountancy profession. The Olympiad examination is set by the CFA committee in the Limpopo Province and covers all practical and theoretical aspects of the accounting functions of business. Twenty-seven schools of the 41 invited entered, with a total of 76 candidates who wrote the Olympiad.
