WATERVAL – The Police in Waterval have arrested a 23-year-old man for trying to rape a 60-year-old pensioner.

The incident happened last week Sunday before mid-day. According to the statement from the police, the man ambushed the pensioner in a bush, where he tried to rape her.

The matter was reported to the police the same day and the suspect was arrested. No information about the suspect's appearance in court was available during the time of going to press.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating a case of suspected rape, following the shock discovery by a mother of a 7-year-old girl, who found her daughter's underwear with bloodstains. The mother found her daughter's underwear in bed with blood on it last Thursday. She then tried to find out from her daughter what had happened, as she had never revealed anything.

The police took the underwear to the forensic laboratory for examination.
