ELIM- "Heal the past, live the present and envision the future". These were the words of the king of Chimurenga music, the Provincial MEC of Public Works in Limpopo Province, Mr Collins Chabane, during a meeting to celebrate the commencing of the tarring of the Elim-Vleifontein road, held at Elim sports ground last Friday.

In an interview with Mirror, Chabane revealed that between 10 and 15 million rand would be utilised for the project, adding that the road would also be tarred to Bandelierkop. "You get the best effort from others not by lighting a fire beneath them, but by building fire with them. I am calling on community members to support us in this project until to the end to show that in this government we work as a collective team," he said.

He said that a life without challenges is a life without strength, and that people are no longer the prisoners of the past, but pioneers of the future. He said his department has built and reconstructed four bridges that were damaged around the Elim area. He further said that last year they tarred two roads at Bochum another two at Sekhukhune and the Mokopane, Modjadji, Lenyenye and Ha-Sekororo, Ka Tom-Phalaborwa roads. "Presently, we are busy with the N1 road between Louis Trichardt and Pietersburg and we are also tarring another road at Matavhela to Tshipise in the Mutale area," he elaborated. He strongly criticised the habit of local Chiefs who ask contractors to tar the road to their kraals, saying that the government does not render its services on individual bases.

The Mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr MB Tlakula, said that the handing over of the road means that the municipality will participate in the form of monitoring as well as in making sure that people within the jurisdiction of the municipality are getting employed at the project. "In making our economy to grow, we need to live as if tomorrow is our last day in order to be successful, as quitters are always losing," the mayor said
