Young Samantha is SA's top ladies shot

LOUIS TRICHARDT – Local clay pigeon shot, thirteen year old Samantha Pennells, caused quite a stir over the weekend by becoming South Africa's new Ladies Senior Division shot.

Samantha, a member of the Louis Trichardt Clay Pigeon Club, competed in the South African 16 Yard ATA Championships in Pretoria and won the Ladies Senior Division after shooting 165 out of a possible 200 points. She was part of a ten member team from Louis Trichardt who competed in the championships.

Two other members of the local club also did extremely well. Peter Oosthuysen took two silver medals in the B-Class with a score of 188 out of a possible 200 points, while Hans Uys won three bronze medals in the C-Class after shooting 173 out of a possible 200. Other members who did well were Theo Lordan (183-200), Willem Strydom (181-200), Dries van der Walt (180-200) and Pieter du Plessis (176-200).

The club's next big shoot will be the African Grand in Bloemfontein on June 15 and 16. This will be an International Shoot with shooters from Australia, America, Ireland, Angola, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
