NZHELELE – Unnecessary accidents seem to be coming to an end as Mulaudzi Bus Company recently added six more roadworthy buses to their fleet to protect passengers from the risk of travelling with outdated buses.
Among the guests during the function held to celebrate this event were Transport MEC, Dr Tshenuwani Farisani, Cllr Richard Tshivhase, Cllr Calvin Leshiba and Mr Mushe Makakavhule of the Vhembe Buses Operator Association.
Farisani said his department was trying to eradicate unnecessary accidents that are hampering traffic flow in the Limpopo Province. A lot of passengers have lost their lives due to outdated buses. He praised the Mulaudzi Bus Company for contributing towards moral regeneration. According to him the Government has demonstrated in many ways that it does not accept anarchy and lawlessness.
The Vhembe Buses Operator Association's Chairperson, Mr Mushe Makakavhule, said that there must be a passenger liability just to protect them. A certificate of fitness must be strictly looked upon before buses could transport passengers.
Cllr Calvin Lishiba of the Vhembe district emphasised that a Passengers Forum must be formed. A policy regarding drivers and passengers will be realized soon.
During the ceremony nine Nzhelele schools received a donation of R1000 each. These much-needed contributions were aimed at improving results at the end of each year.
Mamvuka Secondary got an amount of R8 000 following their performance in last year's matric results.
Eleven teachers were awarded with trophies and gold medals for their hard work.
