The deep rural village of Tshithuthuni in Nzhelele has raised a young man who grew up to become one of the gospel singers whose sounds easily communicate a message to the listener.

Sammy Mutibi's first offering doesn't disappoint at all. “I produced and rearranged the whole album, but I had an experienced engineer, Mpho Mudau, who mastered the final product,” he said.

The album is titled Saulo Nwananga and comprises 12 tracks which boast different melodies and styles of the genre. “People can expect to enjoy songs like Mapfumo a muya, Dzina Lavhudi and Uyamakatsa,” said Sammy. "In Mapfumo a muya, I encourage people from all walks of life to stay strong and never give up. They must put on the spiritual armour."

As a young man, this singer was mesmerised and inspired by the music of the veteran gospel artists Muraga Makatu, Maria le Maria and the late Vuyo Mokoena of Pure Magic gospel group. “There's a foundation for every house that is built here under the sun; likewise, all these artists served as my motivation when I started to sing,” he acknowledged.

He is a proud member of the African Apostolic Church in Efeso, Thononda-Lutomboni, under Bishop Elias Mudzunga. “I encourage my fellow youths to stop using drugs and abusing substances,” said Sammy.

Last Saturday, he shared the stage with established singers such as Trica Selala, Barorisi ba Morena, and Rofhiwa Manyaga in the fully packed Univen auditorium during the Bahale Music Production Festival. “The response was amazing and I felt motivated,” he enthused.

Another launch will be held at the United Apostolic Church in Tshithuthuni village tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:00. Sammy can be contacted at 084 257 8401.
