Man accused of killing own sister

LOWVELD - The SAPS in Duivelskloof have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the death of his own sister.

The incident happened last Saturday at Ga-Sekgopo Village. According to Capt Moathe Ngoepe, the deceased, Maepeya Witness Rababalela (20) was allegedly stabbed once in her chest with a knife by her younger brother and died instantly.

This was after a long argument over their parents' house, which is in Gauteng. They both allegedly wanted ownership of the house after their parents moved from the Gauteng Province.

The suspect appeared in the Duivelskloof Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder. The progress of the case was not known at the time of going to press.

The SAPS in Phalaborwa have launched a manhunt after a prisoner awaiting trial escaped from the Magistrate's Court cells after his court appearance last Friday. The escaped prisoner, Daniel Makhubele (19), of Majeje Village was arrested on theft charges and the investigation continues. Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts can contact the Phalaborwa Police Station at 015 780 3300 or Supt Malubane at 082 808 7158 or the nearest Police Station.

At least 31 alleged criminals were arrested in the Calcutta Policing Area during Operation Tshika swa Vanhu, a high-density operation.

The criminals were arrested for crimes such as robbery, rape, housebreaking and theft. The success of this operation was achieved because of the support of the community. The different Police Units, with the support of the SA National Defence Force, are at the helm of the operation. According to a spokesperson for the police, it will continue until the crime rate drops in that area.
