"Serve your time and then be deported," magistrate orders

GIYANI - Last Tuesday a 43-year-old man, Antony Nkuna, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment on charges of housebreaking with intent to steal. He was not given any option of a fine.

Nkuna, a Mozambican national of Hluphekani Refugee Camp was found guilty by the Giyani Magistrate on charges that he committed the offence earlier this year at Section A.

According to Insp Hasani Steven Mabaso of the Giyani Police, Nkuna had broken into a shop and stole groceries to the value of R4 000. The magistrate stressed that Nkuna could not be released on parole until he had served the full sentence. After completing his sentence, he will be deported back to Mozambique.

A resident of Mahlathi Village, Patrick Maluleke (31) has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for theft out of a motor vehicle and common robbery. The case was finalised last Thursday.

It was testified that Maluleke went to Phineas Mhangwabni's house and stole a truck battery and thee live chickens.

Judgement was also passed on to a 20 year old man for robbery. Romeo Mhalati of Dingamazi Village had last Tuesday attacked Ms Evelinah Mamayila Maluleke, who was walking home on foot. He hit her with a hammer and stole an undisclosed amount of money and property.
