Tshilwavhusiku cop denied bail

News  Date: 18 October 2013

A 29-year-old policeman and his co-accused were denied bail when they presented bail applications in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate's Court on Monday and Tuesday.

The court was fully packed with curious community members, police officials, and family members and friends of the two accused.

The court heard that, among other reasons, the police were still investigating the basic aspects surrounding the case, so they couldn't grant bail to the two accused, Const Azwindini Colbert Makuya and Melton Netshivhangani (30).

Netshivhangani and Makuya were arrested on suspicion that they had stolen two heavy-duty chainsaws and a truck battery from a local timber dealer in Madombidzha. Limpopo police's spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, had since confirmed that the police had confiscated all the stolen goods, which amounted to a total value of R12 000.

The case was postponed to 11 November.
