Inquest docket opened after mental patient disappears

MALAMULELE - The police at Malamulele have opened an inquest docket after the community of Nghomunghomu, under the Magona Territorrial Authority, had found human remains in the bushes in their area.

They are believed to be the remains of the 18-year old Josi Maluleke. According to the police Maluleke, mentally ill patient went missing on March 15 of this year. When the community learnt of his disappearance, they reported the case to the police at Malamulele. A huge search for Maluleke followed, but to no avail.

As the village is adjacent to the Kruger National Park, the search was staged as far as the park's fence. It continued until April 7, when a human skull was found in the bushes just outside Maluleke's home village. Some clothes and human bones were also found. Maluleke's relatives identified the clothes.

According to Insp Chauke of the Malamulele Police the bones were taken for a post mortem examination, which was due to take place on April 10. Chauke stated that they couldn't exclude the possibility that wild animals might have killed the deceased, but that he would wait for the final report by the examiners.
