LOUIS TRICHARDT - The Makhado Municipality is in the process of transforming its operations with a view of rendering a more effective service to the public.
The Restructuring Committee, established by Council, this week came up with recommendations which will amongst others empower and capacitate the various committees of the Council to make pertinent inputs to the agendas of Council.
A spokesperson for the mayor’s office, Mr Peter Magwala, said in an interview: "We want them to discus the items and afterwards make recommendations to the Executive Committee which in its turn will make recommendations to Council."
He explained that officials, under the Municipal Manager, would have to identify items that will then be referred to the various committees of Council for discussion and formulation of recommendations to Exco.
"We want to come up with a system that more or less follow the pattern of procedures in other government bodies, within the framework of the existing laws," he said.
Mr Magwala explained that the mayor postponed the meeting of the Executive Committee, which was scheduled for this week, in order to give effect to this restructured modus operandi. He gave the assurance that this will not have any adverse effect on the normal monthly business of Council.
"All business which is supposed to be considered by Council will be considered during its monthly meeting on 30 April."
