MAKHADO - A devastating fire caused havoc early Thursday morning, July 1 in Songozwi Street. The blazing inferno left well-known local sports store, Playboy Sports in charred ruins.

An emotional Mr Iqbal Ahmed (owner) watched in disbelieve as his life’s work were reduced to ashes in front of his very eyes. By the time fire-fighters arrived at the scene, there was little more left to do, but try and prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding shops. This was accomplished with little damage to neighbouring stores. Playboy Sport was, however, less lucky.

The fire started a couple of hours before daybreak. By the time of going to press it was not known what started the fire, although it is speculated that a faulty air-conditioner in the roof might have sparked the blaze. The damage is estimated to run into millions of rands, not only due to stock losses, but structural damage to the building as well.
