Two arrested after death of businessman

The police in the Lowveld have arrested two young men following the death of a well-known businessman, Mr Ngoako Johannes Mnisi (45) of Dikgale Village. The incident took place at Dikgale near Pietersburg during the night of March 14 at about 22:00.

According to the spokesperson of the police in the Lowveld Area, Capt. Moatshe Ngoepe, the deceased was busy counting money inside his shop when the incident occurred. According to the statement, the suspects jumped into the shop and ordered the lone man to give them the keys of his vehicle at gunpoint.

The gunmen allegedly shot and killed the businessman before they stole his vehicle, welding machine and cash amounting to R15 000. The deceased's body was discovered in the bushes between Mooketsi and Houtbosdorp Farms near Tzaneen last Sunday.

The suspects, aged 24 and 26, were arrested last Friday. According to the police statement, the arrest came after the police had received a tip from concerned residents, that the suspects were hiding in an abandoned house near Tzaneen.

The suspects pointed out to the police the spot where they had hidden the deceased's body. The deceased's vehicle and welding machine were recovered. The suspects were still to appear before the Duivelskloof Magistrate's court at the time of going to the press.
