MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – Rumours that the town’s Municipal Manager, Mr Reuben Rambado was suspended last week not only left residents a bit confused, but also left council members in the dark.
Rumours did the rounds over the weekend that a letter, written by a now-unknown source, was issued, stating that Mr Rambado was to be suspended with immediate effect, following allegations of corruption. This, apparently, had something to do with the findings of Council’s Ad Hoc committee, appointed last year by the mayor to investigate allegations of, amongst others, nepotism and corruptions. To date the finding, which was promised to be made public, is still being held secret.
The letter, it is rumoured, was to have been delivered to Mr Rambado personally, but this could not be done as he is at present attending a workshop for Municipal Managers in Ireland.
When asked about the rumours on Monday, Mayor Rhulani Nkuzana said that he had also heard the rumours. He first said that he could confirm that Mr Rambado had indeed not been suspended. He later stated, however, that he could neither confirm nor deny the rumours. He added that he doubted that anyone else in Council would be able to confirm or deny the rumours. However, there seems to be more to the rumour than initially expected.
In the meantime, a council source made contact with Mr Ram-bado in Ireland. He was unaware of his rumoured suspension.
Andries joined the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror in April 1993 as a darkroom assistant. Within a couple of months he moved over to the production side of the newspaper and eventually doubled as a reporter. In 1995 he left the newspaper group and travelled overseas for a couple of months. In 1996, Andries rejoined the Zoutpansberger as a reporter. In August 2002, he was appointed as News Editor of the Zoutpansberger, a position he holds until today.
