Two in court on murder charge

TSHITALE – Elisa Munyai (44) of Mashamba Village and Patrick Mudau (20) of Sereni settlement briefly appeared in the Tshitale magistrate's court last Thursday on a charge of murder.

The incident relating to the case took place at Mashamba Village in the Furaulale area on Sunday, March 10 at about 18:00.

According to the spokesperson of the police at Tshitale, Insp Azwinndini Makhavhu, the accused were in the company of the deceased on the day of the incident. They were drinking beer at a local shebeen. According to the police statement a heated argument ensued between the accused and the deceased.

The statement further indicates that the centre of the argument was a bottle of beer. During the argument the accused allegedly threatened to kill the deceased. Realising that his life was in danger, the deceased decided to go home.

The accused then followed him and found him along the way. One of the accused allegedly threw a stone at the deceased, hitting him on the head. He fell down and lost consciousness. According to the statement the accused continued to stone him until he ultimately died at the spot.

The accused were arrested two days after the incident. They were not asked to plead during their first court appearance and the case was postponed until today, March 22. The accused are in custody. The deceased was identified as Mr Maragabigiri Rambau (50) of Mashamba Village.
