News  Date: 17 December 2004

NNGWEKHULU – A student in hospitality at the Vhembe Further Education and Training College (FET) was taken to the Tshilidzini Hospital after the paraffin stove that she was using at her home in Nngwekhulu Village exploded last Wednesday.

Miss Khathutshelo Mabunda (20) of Nngwekhulu Tshivhangani Village was cooking food when the paraffin stove exploded and burnt her hands and thighs. The incident took place in the kitchen. Her sister, Thamba Mulaudzi, said villagers are still using paraffin stoves because there is no electricity in the village.

A month ago, a child drank paraffin and died on the way to the hospital and now Ms Mabunda was burnt by a paraffin stove, said a member of the community.

The chief executive officer of Tshilidzini, Mr Magwedzha Mphaphuli, confirmed that Mrs Mabunda is recovering in the hospital.
