MAKHADO – The bureau chief of the Sunday Sun in Limpopo, Mr Ndivhuwo Robert Musetha, proved that he has sympathy with the poor and will remain devoted to the public welfare in order to improve the lives of those who are heavily burdened by poverty.

The former Mirror and City Press correspondent initiated a project, Adopt a Sun, aimed at assisting poverty stricken families in the province with food parcels, clothes and blankets. To make the project successful, Musetha, approached a prominent businessman, Mr Tom Boya, and a local Samaritan, Cllr Amie Chhaya, to provide about 80 families across the province with food, clothing and blankets as their Christmas gifts.

On December 9, Mr Boya handed over groceries to the family of the late Mrs Anna Nthangeni of Madombidzha and to the frail Lawrence Miletse (22) of Maebane at Ha-Kutama. Mrs Nthangeni, who was suffering from leprosy, passed away. The following day, (Friday 10), Mr Chhaya visited the two families where he handed over blankets, maize meal, clothes, and groceries.

Mr Tom Boya, who referred to the assistance as a spirit of goodwill to mankind, said that it is not a new thing for him to assist those who are not fortunate in life like him, as he claimed that he has been doing that since a year ago. “What Musetha is doing is just revealing what a person is all about. I urge other businesspeople to do the same in improving the lives of our poor people, because we cannot expect somebody from outside our country to come and eradicate this poverty. I think together we can make this nation of our grow socially, economically, and politically,” he said.

A few of the beneficiaries are Mr Abram Tautswala (Tzaneen), Mrs Trocia Khorombi (Mapakoni), Jankie Kgabu Libogo (Taaibos), Mr Packson Nemandavha, Nzhelele-Mandavha) and Mr Lawrence Miletse of Maebane. Musundwa Radzuma (13), who is staying with the Nthangeni family, said that the donation came at the right time, while there were no groceries for the festive season. “I am happy; I do not how to express my happiness,” she said. Mrs Magret Miletse (60) also thanked the reporter and the two men who handed over donations to her son.

When asked to comment, Musetha said that “I want to stop the myth that newsmen are interested only on writing articles and this is a challenge to the provincial government, local municipalities and everyone in our respective settlements.”
