MOPANI – Two residents of Tickeyline Settlement, Mohale Kgatla (20) and Jeremiah Makhubele (29) briefly appeared in the Maake Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of armed robbery. The incident related to the case took place at Tickeyline settlement over the past weekend.
According to the spokesperson of the police in the Mopani Area, Const Sylvia Hlungwane, it is alleged that the suspects had proceeded to a local Indian business and robbed the shopkeeper of a number of goods, including cellphones and groceries, at gunpoint.
The matter was reported at the Maake police station and the police embarked on manhunt for the suspects. The suspects were ultimately arrested on Sunday. According to the police statement, the suspects had some of the stolen cellphones and a cheque book in their possession at the time of their arrest.
They appeared in court on Monday. They were not asked to plead and the case was postponed to a later date. The suspects will remain in custody until the next court date as their bail application was not entertained.
In a separate incident, Mr Matume William Makwela (20) and Mpho Mahashe (20) of Tickeyline settlement appeared in the same court on the same day on a charge of housebreaking and theft.
The incident took place at Tickeyline Settlement last Saturday. According to the police statement, the suspects broke into a local supermarket and stole groceries to the value of about R50 000. They were arrested the following day.
They were not asked to plead when they appeared in court on Monday. Their case was also postponed to a later date and the suspects will remain in custody until their next court date as they were not granted any bail.
