The Musina police arrested a 30-year-old Zimbabwean woman after she had allegedly been stealing items from her place of work in town.

According to the spokesperson for the Musina police, Const Dakalo Ramagwede, a worker was seen by a security guard from outside while stuffing items inside her bag at around 10:00 last Thursday. The security guard then went inside the shop and alerted the shop owner about the theft.

"The owner was doubtful when the security officer pointed to one of his store assistants as a possible thief," said Ramagwede. "The bag belonging to the suspected thief was searched and some items stolen from the shop were discovered."

The owner was shocked and speechless when he discovered that one of the employees was stealing from him. The police were called to the scene.

"She was questioned and she confessed that she had been stealing for some time and that there were more things at her room," Ramagwede said. "The police then drove to her place and recovered lots of stolen items. She said that she normally sold the items each time she went home to Zimbabwe."

The value of the stolen goods is estimated at R6 900.

Ramagwede confirmed that the suspect, who was later identified as Tabeth Peta, had been charged with theft and being found in possession of suspected stolen goods. "She appeared in court on Friday (17 January) and her case was postponed to 3 February, pending further investigations," Ramagwede said.
