THOHOYANDOU – Black Leopards Football Club, in conjunction with Phalaphala FM, have proved beyond any doubt that they are committed to improving the lives of the disabled by pumping more money into one of the local charity organizations, Takalani Children’s Home.
The handing-over ceremony of money for the home was held at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, shortly before the starting of their Castle Premiership game against Kaizer Chiefs. The funds that were donated to the organization were raised during the club’s brand manager, Tshifhiwa Thidiela, and the team’s coach, Shakes Mashaba’s recent visit to the United States of America to market the club.
Thidiela and Mashaba came back with a cheque amounting to $5 000 (about R30 000). The money was donated by the team’s technical sponsor, Umbro International. During the ceremony, Thidiela handed the cheque over to the representative from Takalani Children’s Home, Mr Robert Livhoi.
The manager of Phalaphala FM, Mr Victor Ravhuanzwo, indicated that both the club and the radio station have a social responsibility to care for the disabled and the needy in general. He revealed that his station, together with Black Leopards, had embarked on a car wash project two months ago.
The project was so successful that they managed to raise about R40 000. The same charity organisation, Takalani Children’s Home, benefited from the project. Black Leopards gave away an amount of R50 000 to five charity organizations early this year.
During the ceremony, a representative from Takalani Children’s Home, Mr Robert Livhoi, stated that what Black Leopards are doing is a clear indication that the club belongs to all residents of Vhembe District. He revealed that the money will be used to buy a vehicle that will be used to convey the children to various occasions.
