The pupils of Chamati High outside Giyani are still waiting for most of their stationery from the Department of Education.
SGB chairperson Solomon Malatjie said the parents were very angry about the delay in the supplying of the stationery to the school. He said that after they had complained, only a limited number of books were delivered.
“We have inquired about the delay in delivery at the Shamavunga circuit, since pupils are not doing any school work as there is not enough books to write in, and nothing is happening,” said Malatjie.
The principal, Mr Sampson Ngoveni, said he was first told the books had been delivered at Chamado High School in Mapuve village, about 80 km away. He also confirmed that only a few books were delivered at the school. “We are very disturbed about the matter and now we don’t know what to do,” said Ngoveni.
The provincial departmental spokesman, Mr Phuti Seloba, has put the blame on both the SGB and the school principal, saying they should have used the toll-free number to report anything relating to books.
