Driver flees from accident scene

MUSINA – Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle, which overturned on the N1 south some 17 kilometres from Musina on May 10. One person died and police have opened a case of culpable homicide.

The accident happened at about 17:00. An unknown male, aged between 28 and 34 years, was killed after being flung from the vehicle. He was a passenger in the vehicle and according to information received he was an illegal immigrant from Zimbabwe.

As far as could be established, both the driver and the deceased were under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident. It is alleged that the driver tried to overtake two trucks and lost control of the vehicle. Upon the SAPS and emergency services' arrival on the scene, it was ascertained that the driver of the said vehicle fled the scene. A driver's licence was found in the vehicle and an investigation will determine whether it belongs to the driver.
