MOPANI - The police in the Mopani area have arrested four game rangers and charged them with theft on Monday this week. The officials are all employed in the Ivory Tourists Camp in the Bolobedu area. The suspects’ ages range from 21 to 45.
According to police spokesperson in the area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged that the four officers had reported several theft cases at the local police station from early last year until last week. Some of the items that the officials had reported as stolen include wheelbarrows, pockets of cement, doors, window frames and timber.
The police received a tip off from concerned members of the public that the items that were reported stolen were actually stolen by the complainants themselves. The police followed the hints and search warrants were issued against the suspects.
On Monday the police moved from one suspect’s home to the other searching for the stolen goods. According to the police all the goods that were reported stolen from the camp were recovered from the suspects’ homes.
The stolen articles were according to the statement to be utilised in the building of camp houses that are currently under construction within the camp. The suspects were still to appear before the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court at the time of going to press, while the police were busy investigating the matter further.
