Another busy weekend for SAPS

GIYANI - Police arrested a resident of N'wakhuwani Village last Saturday on suspicion of possession of stolen goods, during the course of Operation Tsepa.

A woman, aged 41, is alleged to have been found in possession of stolen property with an estimated value of twenty thousand rands. The stolen property, recovered at her home, includes a big Lister water pump, two electric cables, an AC/DC-converter and a solar panel, model SP 145.

The police have called on all members of the community to contribute towards the eradication of crime by not buying or keeping stolen goods in their homes. "By doing so, they are encouraging the criminals to continue stealing," a spokesperson for the police said.

* A 41-year old male resident of Mhlava-Willem Village appeared in the Giyani Regional Court this week for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter.

The suspect allegedly raped his daughter on Saturday, 9 February, this year. The Giyani Police at Mhlava-Willem Village arrested him the following day.

The communications officer of the Giyani Police Service, Inspector Hasani Steven Mabasa, confirmed that the man had called in his daughter from where she was playing with the other children outside the house and then raped her.

The accused appeared in court for the third time on 4 March. Members of the community have expressed their outrage about this incident and about rape in general. They are hoping that MEC Dikeledi Magazi will make good on his promise that the number of rape cases will be down in the Limpopo Province by this time next year.

* The Giyani Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy at Nkomo Village for driving a car without a valid driver's licence. To make things even worse, the vehicle he drove was involved in a collision.

It is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a hut. One of the boy's relatives allegedly requested him to wash a white Toyota Corolla.

After washing the car the boy decided to go for a drive without the owner's permission. The collision made a big hole in the hut and the front of the car has been damaged.

What was supposed to be a day of relaxation and swimming ended in the death of a young boy.

Eleven-year-old Lloyd Matye of Skhunyani Village drowned in a dam on Friday, 1 March.

According to Inspector Hasani Steven Mabasa, communications officer of the SAPS in Giyani, a docket has been opened for further investigation into the matter

Apparently the deceased and his two friends went swimming in the Skhunyani dam. At one stage the other boys noticed that Lloyd had disappeared and started calling and looking for him, but they received no response. His body was found in the dam the following day (Saturday) by a group of divers from Pietersburg.
