The rector of the University of Venda (Univen), Prof Peter Mbati, has urged graduates to use their qualifications wisely to benefit them and society.

Mbati was speaking at the graduation ceremonies of Univen last Thursday and Friday and conferred more than 1 600 degrees, diplomas and certificates.

He thanked all those who had played important roles in the lives of the graduates, such as lecturing staff, parents and academic leaders, “nurturing and sharpening them from the first time they enrolled, up to this point in time where they have matured, qualified and are ready to enter the world of work.”

He said the university was confident that the graduates had acquired the necessary skills and competencies to allow them to flourish in whatever career choice they would pursue.

One of the graduates, Ms Tholiso Ngulube, a student in environmental sciences, said hard work and determination were behind her success. “I did work hard through all my studies, and I was looking for the award. I thank God for all of my success.”
