LOUIS TRICHARDT – The buying of yet another luxury vehicle for the local municipality was questioned during the monthly council meeting.
Council accepted a recommendation by the Executive Committee for a tender for the supply and delivery of a Mazda 2600i 4x4 double cab petrol driven vehicle complete with canopy, gear lock, air conditioning and power steering at the all inclusive amount of R201 579.
The DA objected to the expenditure and asked if a better deal could not be struck for a much lesser amount.
It was indicated that less luxurious 4x4 double cab vehicles were available for much less money.
The municipal manager indicated that the vehicle was needed for the department of community services’ clinic session which had to serve villages and communities in mountain areas which would be impossible to access by any other type of vehicle.
He said tenders were called and only two tenders were received. The one recommended was in fact the lowest of the two.
