LOUIS TRICHARDT – Councillors will in future be allowed to use the language of their preference and need not specifically use English anymore.

This resolution was adopted during the monthly meeting of the local municipal council.

Councillor M J Delekisa addressed Council in his home language and requested that councillors be allowed to express themselves in the language of their preference.

The proposal was generally accepted.

It was resolved that the possibility of appointing an interpreter should be investigated.

Speaker Joan Hoorzuk confirmed that such a ruling is in line with the Constitution. “I suppose that I could then also use the language of my preference, which is Afrikaans,” she said.
