MULEDANE – A secondary teacher, who is accused of selling fake reports to learners, is being investigated by the Department of Education’s regional office, after a tip-off from a concerned community member.
Mirror leant that this teacher attached to Sam Mavhina Secondary, whose name is known to us, has been promoting children who did not qualify. They allegedly had to pay a certain amount, and would then be promoted.
It is alleged that although the school management and the School Governing Body knew about this alleged scam, they chose to keep the matter quiet, until a concerned community member phoned the Assistant Superintendent General, Mr Rathando on February 6.
Rathando confirmed to Mirror on Monday that he received an anonymous call that tipped him off about the alleged scam. Rathando said he did his own investigations, which proved that the information was true. However, Rathando said he instructed the regional office to investigate the matter and report to him in two weeks’ time.
“It is almost two weeks since I asked the regional office to investigate the matter. I should have received preliminary investigations by now. I did my own investigations and established that what was said was true. I was also informed that the SGB knows about this. What I can say is that we do not want corruption in our schools. We want this matter to be dealt with immediately.”
