MOPANI – The police in the Mopani Area are investigating a case of attempted murder, following an incident that took place along the Shivulani to Giyani road on Sunday morning at about 10:30. A bakery truck driver, Mr Risimati Thomas Mathebula, and his assistants narrowly escaped death during the incident.
According to the spokesperson of the police in the area, Const Sylvia Hlungwane, the complainant, Thomas Mathebula, and his crew were delivering bread at the villages surrounding Giyani town during the morning of the incident. After their last delivery they took they decided to go back to Giyani using the Shivulani dirt road. Along the way, two armed men emerged from the nearby bushes. One of them pointed a firearm at the truck, while the other one was trying to stop it.
According to the police statement, their faces were covered with cloth, thus making it difficult for Mr Mathebula and his assis-tants to identify them. Realizing that the driver was not stopping, one of the gunmen fired a shot at the truck, causing huge damage to the front bumper of the vehicle.
Despite that, Mathebula did not stop until they reached Giyani town. The matter was reported to the police shortly thereafter. No arrest had been made at the time of going to press while the police investigations were still continuing.
