GOGOGO - Fetching water from the rivers will be things of past, as the Soutpansberg Community Development Organisation (SCDO) has connected 52 taps in three villages during the ceremony held at Vele Secondary School a fortnight ago.

The installation of pipelines and water taps was done at Mavhode, Gogogo and Fefe to ensure that people get access to clean water.

This project consists of several phases and the Zoutpansberg Community Development Organization has finished Phase 1 that includes Fefe – Thondoni and Gogogo Mavhuwa.

According to Mr Pieter Geldenhuys, Phase 1 includes buying and installing electrical pump at Fefe Village, installing a water system with 52 taps, installing 4 water tanks of 10 000 litres each, and replacing the old boreholes by electrical pumps.

“The total expenditure for phase 1 is R171 673, 10 and the remaining amount in the account is R59 525,” he added.

“Phase 2 will start at Mavhode A, Matongoni, Madatshitshi and Gogogo Musanda,” Mr Geldenhuys said.

Mr Geldenhuys said that this is the time when people have to get access to clean water. “I have worked well with the people of Gogogo, but I am meeting difficulties at Fefe,” said Mr Geldenhuys.

The SCDO is the organization under the United Reformed Church and this helping hand came as to fulfill what is written in the scripture, “Churches must care for the poor,” said Mr Pieter Geldenhuys.

Mr David Tshibubudze of Water Affairs Department said that every one in the Vhembe area would be enjoying tap water in 2020. “The Department of Water Affairs depends on the funds from the European Union and the government is still completing the Nandoni Dam and all people will get access to clean water,” said Mr Tshibubudze. “In order to save water, there should be regulations regarding its utilization,” he said.

On behalf of Mayor Lucas Manyuha of the Mutale Municipality, the Municipality is planning to build a medium concrete reservoir, where people will have more water that will help them in starting vegetable gardens.
