KHUBVI – Representatives from the municipalities, government officials, the business fraternity, prominent traditional leaders, high-profile community builders and members of the local community celebrated their achievements with regard to service delivery during the Khubvi Day Celebration at the Mbulu sportsgrounds outside Thohoyandou on Saturday.
There has been quite an improvement in the village for the past ten years and the community leaders felt there was a need to organize the function.
Among the achievements, Khubvi was the first rural village in the Tshivhase area to have organized street signs eight years ago. There has also been improvement in the educational sphere as most of the village inhabitants hold key positions in the government and private sectors.
The village’s traditional leader, Mavu Vho-Thinawanga Randima, said he was proud of the achievements of his village and he thanked his subjects for their efforts at community building. Randima also said it was important for community members to put their differences aside and work together for the development of the society.
“We have to build our future today and success depends on us. This gathering is a clear indication that our cooperation will lead us to a brighter future and our communities have something to be proud of. Let us stop pointing fingers at one another and work together to uplift our fellow countrymen and -women. We have to celebrate our achievements to encourage our youth to work hard and achieve more than we did. Hard work never killed anybody, and I believe we still have to put in more effort to improve the standard of life in our village.”
Randima concluded by urging the youth to take education seriously and to distance themselves from crime and drug abuse.
“Education is the only weapon for success and it is important to take it seriously to make a significant contribution towards community development. Crime and drug abuse will only lead you to the prison and it is wise to turn your back on them.”
Pioneers who played a significant role in the development of the village were also awarded trophies and certificates during the function. Traditional dance maniacs received a first class treatment as dancers gave above-average performances throughout the function.
