MATATSHE – Three prison warders attached to the Thohoyandou Central Prison (TCP), have been suspended by the management with full pay, following an escape of a prisoner last Friday.

According to prison manager Ken Bouwer, the prisoner, Simon Makwarela (36) of Sekhusese was being transferred from Pietersburg Hospital to TCP when he complained about stomach pains. He was taken to the Tshilidzini Hospital, but he escaped.

Bouwer said they took the decision to suspend the three officials who were transporting Makwarela, as management believe there was negligence on the part of the warders.
