News  Date: 15 February 2002

MUKULA - Two years ago, he was a very promising boxer who was trading his skills in the junior lightweight division of the professional ranks.

While many were still expecting to see Rambani Eric "Rambo" Makhuvha 24, to follow the likes of Philip Ndou and Cassius Baloyi, something just happened and he quit boxing unceremoniously. With a professional record of four fights, all won by a knockout; many fans were looking forward at the new champion in the making.

Mirror visited him at his home, Mukula last week to find out what made the then promising boxer to quit the sport he loved so much.

It was not easy to trace Makhuvha's home as he is now a well known. The confirmation for this is the number of people (clients) who come to see him because of their different problems.

Makhuvha says he had a mental disorder in March 2000, during the floods, which forced him to stop boxing. He was then taken from one traditional leader to another until he was taken to Alfred Makhithi, a prophet based in Malamulele "where he became normal".

"Makhithi told me I should quit boxing and start my own church so that I could help the people, as God wanted me to do so. Since then, I never had any problem. I am now helping people who are having different problems and diseases like infertility," said Makhuvha.

Since Makhuvha started his church, the Emanuel Mission Apostolic Church, which is a branch to Makhithi's church in Malamulele, he is commanding huge respect from the community through his healing powers.

Makhuvha, who is married to Luambo, and has a daughter, Kharendiwe, operates from 05:00 until late in the evening. He says he uses water and mirrors to heal and see people's problems.
