MUSINA – Allegations that municipal councillors and officials are using front companies to award tenders to themselves, are amongst the grievances to be highlighted during a protest march this week.

Residents of Campbell, Harper, Matswale, Nancefield and Musina are to partake in the march, to draw attention to various grievances. The "March for Service Delivery" was organised by the Democratic Alliance.

According to a media statement various complaints reached the DA. A memorandum containing various demands will be handed over to a representative of the Municipality. Concerned inhabitants demand that action be taken to remove illegal occupants from RDP houses. They demand that these houses be allocated to legal beneficiaries. They also demand immediate action to expose and dismiss those officials implicated in the rental of RDP houses.

The demonstrators will also highlight the urgent need for a regular supply of water to all residents. They demand an investigation into allegations of corrupt employment practices and that political appointments should be stopped. Employment should be based on merit and not on party affiliation. Employment preference should be given to local people. Assistance to those affected by the storm damage during last December is one of the demands.

The march will start at 10:00 on Friday, March 14 after a meeting at Musina Nancefield Hall, which will start at 09:00. The procession will move to the Municipal Offices in Musina, where a memorandum will be handed to a representative of the Municipality.
