Man who shot bus driver still at large

MASAKONA – The police were, at the time of going to press, still searching for a man who shot and killed a bus driver, Mr Matlala Wilson Lambani (48) of Masakona Village. The incident took place at Mashishimale village on Sunday night at about 23:45.

According police spokesperson in the Mopani Area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, the deceased was at the Great North Transport Depot when the incident occurred. According to the police statement an unknown gunman arrived at the scene and demanded money from the deceased.

The deceased told the gunman that there was no cash on the premises. The gunman then responded by opening fire on him. The deceased was shot at the back of the head and on the shoulder. He died instantly. The statement further indicates that an undisclosed amount of money was stolen during the incident.

The gunman vanished in the darkness after the incident. No arrest had been made at the time of going to press and the police have appealed to people who have information leading to the arrest of the culprit to come forward. The police promised that all information would be treated with great confidentiality.
