Own radio station for Musina

News  Date: 28 February 2003

MUSINA - It is a matter of time before people of Musina could start tuning in to the pulsating sounds of their very own Musina FM.

Earlier this month a Steering Committee comprising officials from various community structures, led by municipal worker, David Mokobi, attended a three-day workshop on Community Radio. Veteran radio personality, Lawrence Ubisi from the Greater Tzaneen FM, facilitated at the workshop.

The training focused, among others, on introduction to community radio, broadcast licensing requirements, community mobilisation and volunteerism.

Participants were able to develop a two-year plan leading to the application of a license.

It seems as though it is all systems go for Musina FM as Mokobi reiterated that the University of Venda has shown an interest in conducting community surveys on their behalf. Another reputable company in Polokwane has offered its technical expertise, and will soon be sending technicians to conduct technical surveys as well.

If granted a license Musina FM could be reached on 87FM or 102.4FM and will cover Musina, Elim as well as certain parts of Zimbabwe, according to the frequency plan.
