Soccer match disrupted after muti scare

News  Date: 21 February 2003

TSHIKWETA – A soccer match between Tsetse All Stars and Tshikweta Flying Bombers was disrupted five minutes before fulltime, after a suspected muti bottle was found behind one of the goalposts.

According to a statement from Sidfa office, Tsetse is charged for causing direct or indirect abandonment of the game.

Tsetse said the root cause of the problem is the small bottle, which their keeper placed behind the poles. "That bottle was seen by some girls and alerted the fans of Tshikweta. Someone took that bottle and threw it away. They then picked it up again and placed it where it had been standing. Time and again the bottle was a problem in the game. That bottle ended up attracting spectators to get into the field of play," said Tsetse.

However, Tshikweta accused Tsetse of arriving late. Tshikweta, who were down 0-3, scored a goal in the dying minutes of the second half. "Instead of taking the ball to the centre, Tsetse players started to run after two small boys who took the small bottle. "They (the boys) then took the bottle back and placed it in front of the keeper. The keeper then placed the bottle in his palm. Water was then poured onto the ground. This action led to Tsetse refusing to continue with the game," read Tshikweta's statement.

The case has already been heard before the Sibasa District Football Association's disciplinary committee last Saturday. The case has been postponed for further investigations.
