Soccer players injured in truck accident

DZIMAULI - A journey to a soccer match turned into a journey to hospital, after the truck in which Tshibvumo Young Stars was travelling overturned last Saturday.

The team, which are perched on the second position in Stream B of the Solly's League, were travelling to Mulodi to honour a league match against Mulodi Freedom Fighters when twenty people, including players, officials and supporters got injured during the accident at Pile Bridge.

There were fifty people on the truck, including sixteen players.

The injured people were treated at Mutale Health Centre, Donald Frazer, Tshilidzini and Garankuwa Hospitals. During the time of going to press, four people were still in hospital. They are Samuel Mmboi, an official, the team captain, Rabelani Rammbuda, Khathutshelo Mudau, and Alice Mukhathi, a club official.

Team manager Milingoni Tshilande said they have accepted what has happened and only hope that the players will recover very soon. "Our team is in position two after being promoted last season." Captain IX is leading the stream. "Our boys are ready to continue where they left off and take the league. The players have accepted the unfortunate incident," said Tshilande.

Tshilande also added that they were receiving a lot of support from Safa. "Safa is also very helpful as officials visited us everywhere. They are contacting us often and they are monitoring the situation. Acting CEO for SAFA Northern Province East Region, Jabulani Ndovhe, said they were shocked to learn of the accident. He said they visited all victims to have a clear picture of the effects of this unfortunate incident. "We are in contact with the affected families and we wish the victims a speedy recovery," said Ndovhe.
