MAPAYENI – The police in Giyani have arrested a fourteen-year-old girl and charged her with murder. This follows an incident that took place in the Mapayeni village near Giyani last Saturday night at about 22:00.

According to police spokesperson in the Mopani Area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe it is alleged that on the day of the incident the deceased, Mr Jack Nkosi (27) paid the suspect a visit at her home.

According to the police, the deceased and the suspect were lovers. While they were together, a chilling argument ensued between the two. The centre of the argument could not be established. During the argument, the suspect went outside the house and left the deceased inside.

The statement further indicates that the suspect had allegedly closed the door and locked it from the outside. She allegedly set the house alight. She stood outside the house and watched as the deceased desperately screamed for assistance. The deceased eventually managed to kick the door open and crawled out.

At that stage his whole body was engulfed in flames. He fell outside the house just in front of the door. Neighbours called an ambulance, which arrived at the scene moments thereafter. The deceased was then taken to the nearby Nkhensani Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.

The suspect was on the run for two days until she was arrested at her home on Tuesday. She still had to appear in the Giyani magistrate's court at the time of going to press.
