News  Date: 31 January 2003

THOHOYANDOU – The Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Province East Regional Association of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Mr Samuel Matodzi has acquired a higher post at the SAFA head office.

According to him he will assume his duties as the Castle Regional League and Tournaments Officer next Monday, February 3. Matodzi started working in the then Great North East Provincial Association (GNEP) way back in 1992.

He was promoted to the post of Executive Officer for the association in 1998. He became the Chief Executive Officer of the same organisation the following year. The year 2000 saw Mr Matodzi being appointed as the Castle Regional League's Co-ordinator.

He impressed his employers so much that they even deemed it fit to add more responsibility to his workload in the year 2001. They appointed him as the Sanlam League co-ordinator.

Matodzi told Mirror that he remembers how he contributed towards the growth of the organisation.

Some of the things that he still recalls vividly are the contributions he made towards the rebel league, Far Northern Transvaal Football Association (FNTFA), the acquisition of the half a million sponsorship by the association from Solly's Discount World, the association's ability to produce numerous players to various national teams and to PSL clubs and convincing the MMK Insurance Company to sponsor the various local district football associations.

Mr Floyd Mbele who is now the Youth Development Officer of SAFA vacated Matodzi's new post. He mentioned the names of people like Mr Ronald Makhadi, Kirsten Nematandani, Elvis Booi and Mr Mulimisi Muneri as some of the people who played a major role towards his growth in football administration. Mr P Ndove has been appointed in Matodzi's post in an acting capacity until the post is advertised.
