Armed robbers hit Dynamos boss' home

News  Date: 17 January 2003

POLOKWANE – The Managing Director of Dynamos Football Club, Mr Pat Malabela, has suffered another blow when armed robbers broke into his Polokwane house on Monday morning. According to the spokesperson of the police in Polokwane, Insp Ntobeng Phala the incident took place at about 03:00.

The statement indicates that two gunmen broke into the house and demanded to know from Malabela's nephew and a domestic worker where he was. At that stage Malabela was not at home. The statement further indicates that his nephew told the robbers that the Dynamos boss was not at home and that they were not in the know of his whereabouts.

The news that Malabela was not in at that stage sounded like an insult to the gunmen, who according to the police went amok and ransacked the house, causing damage amounting to thousands of rands.

Phala stated that the gunmen further demanded Malabela's car keys with the view of stealing it, but unfortunately they could not turn on its ignition.

Phala further revealed that the robbers made off with R130 000 in a case and with household goods to the value of about R150 000.

This is the second criminal incident against Malabela within a space of three months. The search is still on for people who broke into his club's offices in Giyani and stole computers and other valuables about three months ago. During an interview with Mirror, Malabela was quick to mention that there are people who are jealous of his club's prosperity.

He stated that prosperity usually goes with jealousy. "Those people are wasting their time because they can kill me as a person but they won't kill Dynamos," he said. He stated that he was aware of the fact that there are people who are doing everything within their power to make him lose focus on his team.

"They will not succeed," he reiterated. Malabela said that he is linking the two incidents to football. Monday's incident occurred while Malabela was still celebrating his team's 3-1 victory over Manning Rangers at the Giyani Stadium on Sunday.
