Peace again reigns between local musicians

THOHOYANDOU – The dispute between local reggae artists, Colbert Mukwevho, Khakhathi Tshisikule and Bishop Roxley Fhatuwani Masevhe, which could have ended in court, came to an end and the artists made peace last year.

Towards the end of last year, the two reggae artists claimed Masevhe had defamed them in an interview with PhalaPhala FM. The two acclaimed local reggae stars were suing Masevhe for a whopping R500 000, following his alleged statement on a Phalaphala FM current affairs programme that the two smoke too much dagga and that they had come with BMWs and guns to kill him.

The idea of making Bishop prove his defamatory statements through legal proceedings, changed shortly after intervention by Thovhele Vho-Kennedy Midiyavhathu Tshivhase shortly before Christmas.

According to Khakhathi, together with Colbert, they addressed their grievances within the Vhembe Music Forum during the general meeting. “At the meeting, we both agreed to withdraw our legal action via our attorneys. We even agreed that the existing committee of the forum had to proceed with its duties, but in a transparent manner,” he said.

The two artists refused to receive certificates and trophies during the Vhembe Music Awards Ceremony that was attended by MEC Joe Maswanganyi and Thovhele Vho-Kennedy Midiyavhathu Tshivhase last December, arguing that there was no transparency within the music forum and that the things they had been promised did not materialise.
