MOPANI – The police in the Mopani area are investigating a case of armed robbery, following an incident that took place along the Jerome-to-Mavambe road on Tuesday morning at about 11:00.

According to the spokesperson of the police in the area, Const Sylvia Hlungwane, the bakery truck driver, Mr Titus Tshikororo (42) of Muledane village, was delivering bread at the villages surrounding Malamulele Town earlier that morning.

After delivering at the last outlet, Tshikororo decided to drive back to Malamulele, using the Mavambe dirt road. He was in the company of his assistant during the incident. Somewhere along the way, they saw a big wooden pole in the middle of the road.

He stopped the vehicle and moved out with a view to removing the pole from the road. While removing the pole they saw a man coming from the nearby bushes. They left the pole and decided to go back to the truck. On their way back to the vehicle, they saw another man holding a firearm coming from behind.

The gunmen ordered Tshikororo and his assistant to move away from the vehicle and to lie down with their faces on the ground. According to the police statement, the gunmen searched Tshikororo and his assistant and robbed them of their cellphones. After searching them, they were ordered not to move from where they were.

One of the gunmen rushed into the truck while the other one remained with the victims. The gunman searched inside the truck and stole cash amounting to R4 000 that was kept in a bag. The robbers left Tshikororo and his colleague lying on the ground and vanished into the surrounding bushes after the incident.

Nobody was injured during the incident. The matter was later reported at the Malamulele Police Station. The gunmen were still at large at the time of going to the press while the police were investigating the matter. The police appealed to anyone with information relating to the incident to contact them at the nearest police station.
